Smith’s Woodcraft Specialty is a custom woodworking business that has been family owned and operated since 1954. Our expertise comes from over 35 years of experience, including an 18 month apprenticeship with the founder and a 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education with a specialty in woodworking.
We are located in north-eastern Howard county in Indiana, near Kokomo. We have been at this rural location since 1996. The property was once a working orchard and we converted the main fruit warehouse into our shop, which was built a few feet from the house and made this location ideal for raising our family and operating the business. It allows us to enjoy our family while giving your project the attention it deserves.
Business founder Basil Teter began his business by primarily building kitchen cabinets. Over the years, his work shifted to a wider selection of other cabinets and furniture, as well as restoring antique pieces. My wife Kathy (granddaughter of Basil Teter) and I purchased the business in 1983. Being able to work with Basil allowed me to learn numerous “tricks of the trade” and fine tune my woodworking skills under a seasoned expert.
This experience provides us with a wide range of skill and knowledge in, but not limited to:
- Repair and restoration of furniture and antiques.
- Hand-made fireplace mantles and entertainment centers.
- Wood-bending and cedar strip canoes.
- Custom automotive interiors.
- Wood-turnings up to 8-feet in length.
- Millwork, trim, and staircases.
- Spinning wheels repaired or made to order.
We repair chairs and stools, so no job is too small. We repair and build from scratch entire kitchen suites, so no job is too large. We are a full-time woodworking business capable of meeting your needs and exceeding your expectations. It is not just a hobby to us. We know that our livelihood comes from giving our customers prompt and courteous service and meeting their expectations with the woodworking projects we provide.
